Ninth Annual Open
Space Cleanup - April 16, 2011

The Chatham Township Environmental Commission held its Ninth Annual Open
Space Cleanup for three cold and drizzly hours in the morning of
Saturday, April 16, 2011 on Township land on Green Village Road. More
than 25 people, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, families, and
individuals came by during the morning to pick up trash and prune
brambles on what was once an old homestead but is now Chatham Township
property.

In spite of the mud and damp weather a lot of work got done. Debris
collected included 30 bags of trash and an assortment of scrap metal
pieces and plastic including a large oil drum and a bed frame. Another
step has been achieved toward the goal of creating a pleasant natural
area for habitat preservation and nature study between Green Village
Road and Loantaka Way on this remarkable piece of open space.

The Commission thanks ShopRite of Chatham for donating cotton work
gloves and plastic trash bags, Chatham Disposal Company for contributing
its service for pickup of the trash bags after the cleanup, and Oak
Knoll school for convenient parking at its playing fields.
