September 8, 2010: The first of its kind in the nation, this educational and composting program includes composting school food waste on-site. With some funds from the Grant, Chatham Township plans to purchase an indoor composter that will convert organic waste into high quality fertilizer. Composting and other sustainability lessons will be incorporated into the School District of The Chathams’ (SDOC) curriculum and made available to the community. The composter will also be used as an educational tool by SDOC classrooms, including the high school’s math and science classes. For more information, email ctec@chathamtownship.org
