RULES FOR "BIG TREE" CONTEST

1. The tree must be within the boundaries of Chatham Township .

2. The tree must be on private property, and the contestant must have the property owner's permission.

3. The circumference of the tree is to be measured 4 1/2 feet above ground on the downhill side of the tree. The final and deciding measurements will be made by the Tree Protection Committee.

4. Contestants must have the accurate location of the tree and its measurements to the Land Use Office at the Municipal Building , 58 Meyersville Road , by 3:30 PM, Friday, October 15, along with the contestant's name, address and phone number.

5. Each contestant is allowed one tree.

6. Each contestant must be a resident in Chatham Township and a registered pupil in grade 4 or 5 only.

7. In the event that more than one contestant has entered the same tree, the tree will be assigned to one student by a drawing. The three winning entries from last year's contest are ineligible: the 17', 7” white oak on Loantaka Lane South , the 16', 8” white oak in the Noe Pond Club and the 14', 11” oak located in R. G. Miele Field.

8. Prizes:

1st prize - $100 savings bond
2nd prize - $75 savings bond
3rd prize - $50 savings bond
